I love all of Jessica R Patch’s books, she is an automatic-purchase author for me. I can recognize excellent writing and will give kudos when due, but despite the 4⭐️ rating I’m giving this book, it was more of a 3⭐️ for me BECAUSE I READ IT AT THE WRONG TIME IN MY LIFE. I truly believe if I read this even 6 or 8 months from now, this could be another 5⭐️ Patch thriller for me. I feel like this is a very good representation of grief and dealing with the emotions that can come at the end of a parent’s life. I lost my mom not too long ago so this was very difficult for me to get through. HOWEVER, the story is very well done. The characters are well written and realistic. The twists keep coming and they come from out of nowhere. I loved the friendship they built and the romance that came from it was so sweet. I have not read the other books in the Colorado K9 Unit and I don’t feel like I was missing too much, so don’t let the number 6 in the series stop you from picking this one up. I will be going back and starting at the beginning of the series. Thanks to the author, Jessica R Patch, for an Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for my honest review.
