3.5 ⭐️ I wanted to love this book based on all I had heard about it, but it just kind of fell flat for me. I’m not sure if it was because my library only had audiobook which is not my favorite format for reading, or if my expectations were too high, or what. The book was fine, and Emma was mostly likable. I just didn’t understand the plot, honestly. I kept waiting for some kind of continuing storyline or plot point. But it was just a disjointed account of daily activities. It was a short read and easy so I will probably listen to the next one and see what I think after that. While it may not have been for me, I do see why many would enjoy it. It was an easy read, lighthearted, and would be great for busy seasons of life. This book/series has been compared to L.M. Montgomery's Emily books, which I can see as Emily journals her life. I think it compares better to the third book rather than the first two. Emma M. Lion is for all intents and purposes at the mercy of her older, richer relatives. Unfortunately, several of them are conniving and have her future prospects teetering on the verge of a financial slope. Overall, this is a fun look into the life of a young woman whose life isn't her own. As she is expected to help her cousin secure a match, deal with a cousin who spends money as if it will never run out, deal with a mysterious tenant, and a purported neighborhood ghost who borrows items and misplaces them around the neighborhood.
